Media Aids in Capture of School Fraud Suspect

Incident:                                             CASE UPDATE:  Theft from Local Schools – Warrant Served on Suspect

Sudlersville Elementary School, Sudlersville, Maryland

 

Arrested:                                             Joseph Myron Gill (62) of Annapolis, MD

 Charges:                                              Theft over $ 1,000 Dollars

 Narrative:   On Monday December 5, 2011 the Office of the Sheriff for Queen Anne’s County received information on the possible whereabouts of Joseph Myron Gill.  Mr. Gill had outstanding warrant from Queen Anne’s County for two counts of Theft under $1000 and one count of Theft Scheme.  Mr. Gill had numerous other warrants from other jurisdictions including Violation of Probation in Anne Arundel County, a federal Violation of Probation in Virginia and a Parole Retake warrant in Maryland.

 Detectives from the Office of the Sheriff began working the leads. The source of information stated they had learned about Mr. Gill’s warrant by the media coverage and wanted Mr. Gill arrested before he victimized another school.  The source stated they knew for a fact Mr. Gill was frequenting two restaurants in Aberdeen, Maryland.  The source was able to positively identify Mr. Gill from a news broadcast they saw on television. 

 Several Law Enforcement agencies were called including Aberdeen Police Department, Maryland State Police Fugitive Recovery Unit and the U.S. Marshall’s Office to assist in locating and apprehending Mr. Gill.  An operational plan was drafted and a detailed search of the Aberdeen area was planned for the early morning hours of December 7, 2011.

 With information provided by the QA Sheriff’s Office, Aberdeen Police Department began to increase patrols in the area where Gill was suspected to be and was able to locate him at a local hotel.  Mr. Gill was taken into custody without incident on December 6, 2011 at approximately 5:00 p.m. He is curently being held in the Harford County Detention Center.
