CHURCH HILL BURGLARIES ARREST

On August 8th the Church Hill Methodist Church on Main Street had been broken into and several acts of vandalism had occurred including burning of choir robes, thrown books on the floor, ransacked desks and cabinets, and had stolen coins from a jar. In the kitchen a bottle of soda had been spilled and candy wrappers left. Damages were considered to be minimal.

Following the burglary several women with ties to the church received obscene phone calls from a younger sounding male asking for them by name.

On August 22nd the Church Hill Elementary School was burglarized with vandals sprinkling baby powder on desks and computers, displaying of personal items, items from desks thrown on the floor and pictures torn of the wall. Damages were estimated under $300. Security at a nearby store showed two subjects leaving the school but due to the poor quality of the video the suspects could not be identified.

On August 23rd The Church Hill Theater was broken into and a door damaged. Several offices were ransacked and cash was taken from several areas.

The theater was burglarized again on September 3rd with costumes, make-up and props thrown about on the floor and in the theatre all the lights had been left on. Damages and theft loss of the two burglaries at the theatre were estimated @ $850.

On the morning of September 8th at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Rev. Todd Kissam noticed multiple lights on at the Church main building and the Parrish house and upon checking realized the two areas had been burglarized.

A search of the building revealed someone had ransacked several areas, strewn items through the rooms, taken a jar with change, and had left a candle lit in the sacristy of the church. In the Parrish, desks had been emptied with papers thrown on the floor, locked file cabinets damaged and forced open. Other offices had been entered and items moved. The kitchen area had utensils thrown about and numerous knives left stuck in various walls. On a counter in the kitchen a large roll of paper towels had been set on fire. It was also found that the intruder had used the church phone and a church phone directory to make several obscene calls to several females.

This morning September 16th, Sheriff’s detectives along with the State Fire Marshalls Office served a Search Warrant at a residence on Main Street in Church Hill looking for a cell phone believed to have been used to make obscene calls. A 15 year old male suspect was found to be in possession of the phone. Interviews of the suspect resulted in the confession of the above incidents as well as several thefts from vehicles in the Church Hill area. The suspect was referred to Juvenile Services and later released to a parent. The second subject at the Church Hill Elementary School burglary was identified but not charged due to age.
