Incident:        Burglary First Degree / Victim Confronted by Suspect

Date & Time   07/11/2013 @ 0014 Hours

Location:        137 Gravel Run Road Grasonviille, MD

Victim:           Van Whittington of Grasonville

 

Narrative:       Early morning of July 11th at 12:14 AM,  Sheriff’s Office patrol units were dispatched to respond to Gravel Run Road, Grasonville for a reported burglary in progress call. Deputies arriving on location learned from the victim that someone had forced a living room window opened and entered his residence.

 

The victim stated he was in his bedroom when he heard a loud noise coming from outside just after midnight and then heard someone inside his residence. When the victim yelled from the bedroom the intruder entered the the room and demanded money. The intruder took the victim’s wallet from a dresser top and fled the residence.

 

The victim called 911 and gave a description of the intruder as an African American male about 5’8″ with a stocky build, possibly in his 20’s with a medium complexion. The suspect was wearing white atletic shorts with a black stripe and had covered most of his face with a white t-shirt. He did not display a weapon.

 

The area was searched by Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies, Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Officers. A K-9 track of the area was also conducted without success. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the residence for crime scene processing and interviews.

 

Sheriff Hofmann is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Bruce W. Layton at 410-758-0770 extension 1212. All callers’ information can remain anonymous. Anyone with information is also urged to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587). The tipster could be eligible for rewards up to $2000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for this Burglary/Home Invasion.
